Liewe Heksie en die Rolskaatse

Liewe Heksie en die Rolskaatse
Familie Teater 55mins
Geskryf deur Margit Meyer-Rodenbeck na gelang van Verna Vels se stories, Regie - Margit Meyer-Rodenbeck; Akteurs: Margit Meyer-Rodenbeck en Deon van Zyl

Sat 27th Aug 10amSat 27th Aug 12pm

Marianna Malan- Die Burger

Seventies Revolution

Seventies Revolution
music 105mins
Duck Chowles, Andy Murray & The Retro Rewind Band,

Fri 26th Aug 7:30pm • Sat 27th Aug 7:30pm

After 2 back-to-back sold-out 70s Revolution shows in February, Duck Chowles, Andy Murray & The Retro Rewind Band, who also brought you the highly-acclaimed, popular shows, “Simon & Garfunkel meet The Beatles” and the “Sixties Revolution”, will be back this August!  Don't miss this special tribute to the Masters of Folk and Rock such as Bad Company, Dire Straits, Rodriguez, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, ZZ Top, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Rolling Stones, and many more.

Duck Chowles, Andy Murray & The Retro Rewind Band pay tribute to a decade, which was a golden era for vinyl records. They were affordable to everyone and everyone had a record player. Do you remember when you bought 7 singles such as Smoke on the Water, Heart of Gold, The Sultans of Swing and Baker Street, or bought albums such as Hotel California, Another Brick in The Wall or Cold Fact?

The show features Duck Chowles, South Africa’s Rock ‘n Roll chameleon, who has won acclaim for his spellbinding and sterling impersonations of Mick Jagger and Rod Stewart. Duck will also pay a heart-warming tribute to singer-songwriter poets, such as Neil Young, Don McClean and Rodriguez.  Inimitably dexterous on lead guitar and vocals, the man with the unassuming stage personality, Andy Murray, will pay tribute, with some blistering guitar solos, to some of the most influential guitarists of the ‘70s such as Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Gary Moore, David Gilmour, Ritchie Blackmore and Billy Gibbons, to name a few. The Retro Rewind Band with Alan Lloyd on drums and Karl Hering on bass, who like Duck Chowles and Andy Murray, paid their dues in various Barnyard productions, completes the line-up, with guest artist, Morgan King on saxophone.

This is one mind-blowing show about showmanship, musicianship, harmony and the power of music, you do not want to miss!

From Memphis To Las Vegas: Elvis Tribute

From Memphis To Las Vegas: Elvis Tribute
Music 115mins
James Marais and Monique Cassells

Fri 2nd Sep 7:30pmSun 4th Sep 4:30pm

James Marais and Monique Cassells’ “From Memphis To Las Vegas:  Elvis Tribute” is a tribute to the King of Rock ‘n Roll, Elvis Presley.  The show covers many of Elvis’ greatest hits from all three decades of his career, namely the 1950s, when Elvis became an international rock ‘n roll star, the movie years of the 1960s, and the glitzy 1970s, when Elvis reigned supreme in Las Vegas.  The show is a mini-theatrical experience, featuring the dynamic vocal and visual performances of James and Monique, alternating as a duo and individual performers, who also do multiple costume changes throughout.

James is the no. 1 Elvis Presley tribute artist in the country, and has appeared on television several times, including appearances on SABC 2’s game shows, “Noot Vir Noot” and “Musiek Roulette”.  James won the Elvis tribute artist competition at the Elvis Festival Africa, Storms River Village, Tsitsikamma, Eastern Cape in 2010.  Thereafter, he travelled to Wales to represent South Africa in the Elvis World Cup competition, where he finished 4th out of 10 other finalists from all around the world.

Monique has gained widespread praise for her powerhouse voice and performances, as well as her versatility.  She was the only female performer singing Elvis music at the Elvis Festival Africa, Storms River Village in 2010 and 2011.  She made her television debut on SABC 2’s “Musiek Roulette” in May 2018.

“From Memphis to Las Vegas” features James paying an authentic tribute to Elvis, with his powerful vocals and dynamic stage moves, while wearing replicas of costumes Elvis wore that will remind audiences of Elvis in his prime.  Monique complements James with her strong, unique performances of Elvis’ music, adding a fresh flavour to an Elvis tribute.  James and Monique will also perform some exciting duets in their unique style.  You can expect to hear all the songs you know and love, including “Heartbreak Hotel”,

“Don’t Be Cruel”, “Hound Dog”, “Love Me Tender”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “It’s Now Or Never”,

“The Wonder Of You”, “Suspicious Minds” and many more!

The Year of The Bicycle

The Year of The Bicycle
Drama 50mins
Performed by Kamogelo Mhlantla & Samantha Carlisle / Directed by Dara Beth / Written by Joanna Evans

Thu 15th Sep 7:30pmFri 16th Sep 7:30pm

Following a successful run at The Baxter Theatre we are proud to host The Year Of The Bicycle.  After almost ten years, Joanna Evans’ hit play ‘The Year of the Bicycle’ returns to South African stages, with a fresh take under new direction and with new performers.

In this restaging of Joanna Evan’ play we see Amelia and Andile, children from very different backgrounds, befriend one another over a garden wall. Ten years later, they have become estranged, and, in separate accidents, fall into a concussion at the same moment. They meet again in each other’s confused minds. Their bodies are broken but their thoughts are very loud as they reach out for contact. While piecing together fragments of self, their memories draw them back to 1997; the year of Ninja Turtles, bicycles, and tazos. And the year when their friendship was shattered by a place in which it is impossible for even a child to feel at ease.

Directed by Dara Beth, ‘The Year of the Bicycle’ stars Kamogelo Mhlantla and Samantha Carlisle in a story just as relevant in 2022 as when it debuted in 2013 (and certainly for years to come). Photo Credits: Elysee Balogun
